A Big Idea for McDonald’s Filet-o-fish
Think of the typical fishing scene: a grandfather out in a row boat with his grandson, enjoying a day on the lake. Now flip it, and put the fish in the boat instead of the humans…
You have an older-looking fish, with large glasses, wearing a fishing hat. It seems like the hat has many lures attached to it. The older fish is sitting in a row boat out on a lake. Next to him is his grandson, a much younger fish, wearing a baseball cap, guarding a cooler next to himself. The grandpa has a fishing pole and seems to be casting towards the shore.
Then this happens: the grandson turns to the grandpa and says, “This sure is fun Grandpa! It’s amazing how many we catch, right?”
“That’s right, All-star,” the grandpa responds, as he quickly reels in another catch, unhooks it, and tosses it into a second row boat which is nearby. “Couldn’t be better,” he adds. [You can’t see what he caught; but you do see water splashing around, evidence of an active catch he just made.]
“Okay, sonny boy,” the grandpa continues, “…put another one on there.” With that, the grandson reaches into the cooler and pulls out a piping hot McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish sandwich, attaches it to the lure, and enthusiastically shouts, “CLEAR!”
Then This Happens…
The grandpa flings the fishing pole and the bait sails towards the shore. It lands in the midst of a large group of people, young and old, playing up on the beach, enjoying the lakefront. As soon as the bait hits the ground, EVERYONE immediately dives head-first for the sandwich. Instantly the grandpa reels one of the people the water, holding onto the bait only by his teeth.
Finally, he is quickly reeled towards the boat, then taken off the lure, and while still holding onto the sandwich with his teeth, is tossed into the second boat. In that second boat there is a growing pile of excited victims who are flipping around with joy as they continue to eat their own McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish sandwiches.
“Wow, Grandpa,” the young boy says, “This is starting to wear me out!”
“Me too, All-star,” the grandpa answers, “It’s about time it was done this way…”
With that, the announcer says, “McDonald’s Filet-o-Fish–so good, you’ll bite.”
We think that is a cool commercial.
